Adult Education Classes in Community Schools

The Office of Adult Education (OAE), in conjunction with the Mayor’s Office of Education, is partnering with community agencies – including Lutheran Settlement House (LSH) – to provide adult education classes in each of the 12 community schools of the School District of Philadelphia. Classes include Adult Basic Education (ABE), Adult Secondary Education (ASE) and English as a Second Language (ESL). As part of this partnership, LSH will be offering classes at the following schools:

  • William Cramp Elementary School (3449 N. Mascher Street)
    • ABE/ASE – Monday/Wednesday 5:30-8:00 pm
    • ESL Classes – Tuesday/Thursday 5:30-8:00 pm
  • Kensington Health Sciences Academy (2463 Emerald Street)
    • ABE/ASE Classes – Monday/Wednesday 5:30-8:00 pm

Classes are free and open to the community


In order to enroll, you must:

1. Call (215) 426-8610 x 1242 to schedule an intake appointment. Intake sessions are scheduled for the following dates (if you can’t make any of the times listed below, we can make other arrangements)

Intake/Assessment Session  for ESL Classes at Cramp Elementary
Tuesday, Sept. 4 – 5:30 pm
Tuesday, Sept 11 – 5:30 pm
Intake/Assessment Session  for ABE/ASE Classes at Kensington Heath Sciences Academy
Wednesday, Sept. 5 – 5:30 pm
Wednesday, Sept. 12 – 5:30 pm
Intake/Assessment Session  for ABE/ASE Classes at Cramp Elementary
Thursday, Sept.  6 – 5:30 pm
Thursday, Sept. 13 – 5:30 pm

2. Come to your intake appointment to fill out registration paperwork and take an assessment test (2 to 2.5 hours total)

3. Start your class the week of September 17
