Adult Education Classes in Community Schools

The Office of Adult Education (OAE), in conjunction with the Mayor’s Office of Education, is partnering with community agencies – including Lutheran Settlement House (LSH) – to provide adult education classes in each of the 12 community schools of the School District of Philadelphia. Classes include Adult Basic Education (ABE), Adult Secondary Education (ASE) and English as a Second Language (ESL). As part of this partnership, LSH will be offering classes at the following schools:

  • William Cramp Elementary School (3449 N. Mascher Street)
    • ABE/ASE – Monday/Wednesday 5:30-8:00 pm
    • ESL Classes – Tuesday/Thursday 5:30-8:00 pm
  • Kensington Health Sciences Academy (2463 Emerald Street)
    • ABE/ASE Classes – Monday/Wednesday 5:30-8:00 pm

Classes are free and open to the community


In order to enroll, you must:

1. Call (215) 426-8610 x 1242 to schedule an intake appointment. Intake sessions are scheduled for the following dates (if you can’t make any of the times listed below, we can make other arrangements). Intake will be held at Lutheran Settlement House (1340 Frankford Ave).

Intake/Assessment Session  for ESL or Adult Education
Tuesday, January 15th – 5:30 pm
Wednesday, January 16th – 9am
Friday, January 18th – 1:00 pm

2. Come to your intake appointment to fill out registration paperwork and take an assessment test (2 to 2.5 hours total)

3. Start your class the week of January 28
